This is very well documented railroad history! I would note that on slide 140 of the presentation, the photo is labeled as being taken from US30/St. Rt. 45. I believe the phot is taken from Grant St. in Lisbon, with 2 tracks crossing. The incline for the coal cars went down below DW Dickey's, that's where the coal tipples were located. Thank you for the information.
CORRECTION: On slide 148 in the presentation I incorrectly identified Mr. Fred Stuckmann as a Conrail Engineer. Fred worked a number of years as a Conrail Conductor, not an Engineer.
The rail line was still in operation in 1982ish. I saw dozers loading coal at Buckeye Industrial Mining along Rt 45 outside Lisbon Ohio. The dozers were pushing the coal off a high section into open hopper cars.

I am in awe and actually in tears that the trains are gone. Born 1949 and grew up on a farm on Rt 62 a couple miles south of Canfield. Recall riding my horse, Spook, across the tracks to get to Canfield, and across the tracks of the Experimental Farm after going through our woods to get to the Canfield Fairgrounds. Walked home from high school often along Railroad St. It was my favorite thing to see all of the old RR stuff and Delfs. Oh my. Thank you ever so much for putting this together Bob Gentzel. Kudos!
My brother Bob knows a lot about the history of railroads in this area. He started gathering his knowledge over 60 years ago when he would ride his bike from our house in Canfield to Leetonia to watch trains and talk to the men who worked for the railroad. In addition to this presentation check out his book on Amazon, Place: Canfield.
